An Apple A Day – Updated

Special Wisconsin Edition

If you have seen us on Facebook, you know that we were seperated for a little while late last week: Ahna and Ezra had already come to Wisconsin, while I had to work two more days before joining them. Well, we are all back together and are enjoying a wonderful fall weekend in this beautiful area near La Crosse. We came back to spend some time with Ahna’s folks and have had a really fun time watching Ezra play with them and enjoy their company.

Yesterday afternoon we headed out to a local apple orchard to pick some apples; well, really it was to spend some time outside and to let Ezra have an experience that’s something that is decidedly more difficult to get in Colorado. There is a great little spot only a few minutes from the house, and located on the top of one of the coulees (coulee is a Wisconsin word for the size of a land mass that is between a large hill and a small mountain – or at least that’s my best guess coulee is a LaCrosse area word for the valley between the bluffs. So, we were on top of a bluff, looking down at a coulee). It was a classic day: cool temps, slight breeze that left a crispness to the air, sun, and a stroll around the grounds.

Ezra simply loved being at the orchard. He was having a great time walking by himself up and down the rows, speaking about everything that he saw. We filled a bag – with just a little help from Ezra – collecting most of the apples from one tree. Then we headed over to the part of the experience that Ezra seemed to love the most: the tractors. We plopped him in the drivers seat for an opportunity to drive the tractor, and I am sure that we actually plopped him right into a world of euphoria.

After we finished up with the apples, we walked across the farm road and into their pumpkin patch to find a pumpkin that Ezra could bring back and leave at his Grandparent’s house. We found two nice pumpkins and came back home for a great afternoon nap – for all of us. It’s good to be back here.

It was an awesome day at the orchard with all of you! I can still see and hear Ezra as he walked through the rows of apple trees and pumpkins jabbering, laughing and smiling! And the tractor, he thought that was really COOL! A great time was had by all!
