A Photo Of Two Generations Of Firefighters
Rewind: A New Ladder Truck….Finally!
So this was the culmination of three years of work, tons of meetings, several trips to the factory, and more time than I would have liked away from family on my off days; but the truck has arrived and is in service. This is one of three trucks that we had delivered from KME (one quint, and two engines) and I had the privilege of sitting on the department’s apparatus team that designed the rigs. What I think that we are all most proud about are that the trucks are built almost strictly based on end-user feedback and to some of the most stringent safety standards in the industry. This truck specifically has a 109′ ladder, carries a lot of ground ladders, has 300 gallons of water, has a 450hp engine, and weighs in at over 70,000lbs. After getting a few kinks worked out upon delivery, the truck has been a blast to work off of and has made our jobs just that much easier/better.
Rewind: Ezra’s 5th Birthday
Ok. Can Ezra actually be 5 years old already?
Close friends and family helped us celebrate the crowning of a great fifth year and Ahna once again created an amazing cake all from scratch – she is getting too good at this. We all wore costumes, capes, or masks (sometimes all of the above) for the superhero themed party.
Rewind: A Devil Of A Hike
It’s not that Ezra is a stronger kid than anyone else, or that he has more stamina than any other 4 year old, or even that he is braver than anyone his age…but sometimes I think so. Early summer 2013, 3 miles, 1000 foot of elevation gain, and 145 steps at the top to the lookout tower – and not a single complaint. He rocked it and climbed it all on his own. The summit of the hike is one of only a couple remaining fire lookouts that are staffed, and you are subsequently rewarded with amazing 360 degree views of the front range. We met with the ranger who lives up there, and he and Ezra enjoyed a nice conversation about life at the top of the mountain and wildfire prevention before we began the hike back to the inevitable nap in the car on the way home.
