Okay, so Ezra is playing with the house phone, so if anyone got any calls….get over it. But I just had to tell you that he just stuck the phone up to his ear and said “hello?”….waited a second or two and asked again “heelllloooo?” 🙂
Directions
Been a little slow posting…big things at work that need lots of attention.
Direction definition #1: follow someone else’s. So here goes (this is for you, Tori). A few days ago we received the first Ski magazine of the year!!!!!! Super excited….it arrived the same week as the forecast for this season said that there will be less storms, but that they will produce a lot more….hopefully I will be able to time my trips skiing with those storms. 7 weeks until ski season!
Direction definition #2: give them and hope someone else follows them. We continue to be amazed at Ezra’s conversational understanding. Example: yesterday we visited Ahna for lunch and while there he was exploring the classroom getting into places that he shouldn’t. During one of these instances, in an attempt to divert him, I asked where his cow was. He pointed across the room to the cow sitting on top of the computer desk. I then asked him to go get it and bring it to me. Following a moment to comprehend the request, he immediately walked across the room, grabbed the cow, and brought it to me. Amazing.
Direction definition #3: subtle hints will change habit. Keep reading the blog. Keep reading the blog. Keep reading the blog. Keep reading the blog. Keep reading the blog. Keep reading the blog. Keep reading the blog. Keep reading the blog. Keep reading the blog. Keep reading the blog. Keep reading the blog. Keep reading the blog. Keep reading the blog. Keep reading the blog. Keep reading the blog. Keep reading the blog. Keep reading the blog. Keep reading the blog.
A Golden Day
Over this past weekend Ahna and I were treated to a date-day while Ezra was treated to a day with his Grandparents….thus the earlier posting about going to see Julie and Julia. We know that they went to Golden to walk around an art fair, they went out to lunch, and they walked a ton…..we also know that they all had a great time, and Ezra didn’t have much trouble going down to sleep afterwards.

Big White Clouds
Talking with Ezra and listening to what he has to say is like looking at a big white cloud and imagining what shapes are being made. There are times now when complete conversation is taking place: we will talk, he will say something. He will ask a question, we will respond. He will make a point about something, and we will agree/disagree. Only thing is that the vast amount of that conversation is taking place in some weird world were we don’t understand anything and he is completely engaged.
To be sure, he is saying a lot more words now and is definitely telling us something – it’s just that we have no idea what it is. There are times when we hear something that sounds a lot like a word or phrase, and it’s in context, and Ahna and I look at each other in amazement….”did you just hear that?” Alas, there is no proof that what we just heard is what we thought we heard; it’s not like he is running around from that moment forward saying that word or phrase in context.
I imagine what he must be thinking when he is trying to tell us something but we give him the “oh yea?!” or the “I don’t know what you want” or the “your absolutely right” replies that are completely out of context for him. Then I wonder if he thinks in the same mumble/garble that he talks with. Wow, that would be weird. Actually, come to think of it….isn’t that what we all do?
Eggs Benedict
Yes, we did go and see ‘Julie and Julia’ while we had a date-day yesterday.
Yes, the movie was entertaining.
Yes, it did re-energize the desire to try to make hollandaise sauce.
Yes, it was successful.
Yes, it did use a lot of pots and pans to make Avocado Eggs Benedict.
Yes, hollandaise sauce is very needy in the cooking phase.
Yes, it is worth it.
Yes, there will be more to come.
Yes, Yes.

Cake
A few days ago we celebrated my brother’s birthday, and I got some of the pictures from the evening sent over today….

Waterworld
August 12 marked the third annual B-Shift (with some C-Shifters invited as well) Waterworld Excursion. It’s a day of slides, rides, challenges, and burns….yea, despite two applications of sun screen, sunburn seemingly was applied better. This year, the Waterworld challenge was made a little different: eat a full funnel cake, drink a 20oz Pepsi, then starting at the beach, sprint to the deep end of the wave pool and stay there for a complete wave session, the break between, then another complete wave session….all without touching bottom or the wall. There were a few sick faces….but it’s always fun.

Cow Pies & Ice Cream
Only one place that I know of where you can find these two items at the same time….your fair…..and we hit our county fair this afternoon. Yup, we found ourselves immersed into the world of pig, rooster, rabbit, funnel cake, tractor pulls, cow herding, sliding, and swinging. It was all a lot of fun (except for the swing….dizzy, and that’s not good on a full stomach), but it was especially fun to see Ezra discovering all of the animals. He took his first merry-go-round ride and was a little skeptical. He rode the slide – twice – and seemed to enjoy that. Ahna and I rode the swings and almost puked. Ahh, a day at the fair. If I could only get that smell out of my nose….

The Reading Machine
The machine: Ezra. The book: anything that it around. His latest trick that we have fallen in love with? Sorting through all of the books, looking for something in particular, then bringing it to us. He sits in our lap, we read the book to him. Repeat. Lots.
