So The Partying Begins…

Ezra’s Great-Grandparents have been in town for the last month or so (since just before Dad’s surgery) and are planning on leaving over the weekend, which means that they won’t be here to celebrate Ezra’s 1st birthday at the party. So, we started the events early and held a nice little dinner tonight….balloons, the gifts from his Great-Grandparents, and a muffin with a candle instead of cake (trying to avoid the sugars for now). Ezra made the obligatory 1st birthday mess, and also got some really cute outfits that he will be sporting this summer and fall. Oh yea, and a book also – which is probably his favorite thing to do right now…read.

Too many pictures came out too cute to trim down the amount loaded (just wait for his actual birthday), so here they are:

Visit To The Firehouse

Ezra and Ahna stopped by the station last night as I was completing my 48 hour shift. This was really the first time that Ezra has shown a lot of interest in sitting in the truck and playing around with stuff….I see a future Ladder Company Chauffeur in the making!

More Tooth

So Ezra has been giving us signs and symptoms that can either be excused as a cold or as teething for about a week now; and while I suppose that we still don’t know exactly what it all has been from, a new tooth has popped up. It seems like compared to the ‘normal’ timeline, Ezra has been a little slower at getting his teeth so who knows how many are coming in this time. The newest member of his mouth is right next to the elder statesmen on the bottom and just to the right as you look at the picture. His gums appear like they could produce in several different places, but we have been saying that for 8 months….

Look At ‘Em Locks

I was trying to take Ezra’s 11-month photo yesterday, and this image popped up. I thought it actually was a good picture, and really shows off the curls coming in.

Baby Jargon & A Real Word Or Two

According to the handy-dandy dictionary on my computer, the definition of ‘jargon is: special words or expressions that are used by a particular group and are difficult for others to understand.

There are times that I feel that the word was invented by parents so that they might be able to describe what their child is verbalizing. Well, for a while now, Ezra has had the jargon bug, and talks and talks and talks. A lot of the time it even sounds like he is forming a sentence…at least if you consider inflection and not vocabulary to be a vital construct of a sentence. While he is eating, while we are driving, while we are on a walk, while he is moving around….

Now, he has started to use a few words in the past couple of weeks – at least we are saying that he uses them. He says ‘hi’ and waves his hand when he sees people. He says ‘yea’ and claps when he sees us do something silly or funny, which prompts us to act like performers and do it all over again. He is also saying ‘daddy’ and ‘mama’ a lot, but hasn’t really put them into appropriate context yet. One more, he started to point using his right index finer at objects: first in books, then everywhere else. Sometimes when he does this, he will raise his eyebrows and say ‘oooooooo.’ It’s super cute.

If all goes well, he will be saying ‘far out’, ‘groovy’, and ‘right on’ soon. Once he masters those, he will be ready for his first Grateful Dead show.

The Blue Doo

Simple story behind this one: while I was getting mine done (although, not blue), the hairdresser had some fun with Ezra’s ever-growing mop.

Tooth Brushing

With the first two teeth actually making a decent presence in Ezra’s mouth, it was in fact time to introduce him to brushing his teeth. So after his bath last night, we grabbed the tiny toothbrush, applied a tiny amount of the baby tooth paste, and shoved it in his mouth. Ahna moved the brush in a brushing motion hoping to make contact with his teeth once or twice. After the initial ‘what is this’ face that Ezra made, he was mostly okay with the process…hopefully it stays that way.

Children’s Museum Fun

We had the opportunity to meet up with Abby, Teva, and Micah this morning at the Children’s Museum. This is Ezra and my second visit in just a few months, and Ahna’s first time there. The last time, Ezra was just learning how to crawl….wow. He really enjoyed Micah’s company and seemed into a lot more things this time….like cogs, boats, basketball, and fishing off of a pier. We put in one picture of Ezra crying (just after he fell on the pier…which at first I encouraged him to get back to playing, then later realized that he actually hit the railing hard enough to bruise his ear) only because you can see the love and care that his good friend Micah has for him with a big ‘feel better’ hug. 🙂
