Random Pictures From Last Week

Two photos are via the camera phone during a walk that Ezra and I did last week around the neighborhood. One of them is from the perspective of someone pushing Ezra, to show you how he loves to ride around lounging with his foot up. I knew that as soon as I walked around the stroller he would take it down, thus the angle. I would suggest that he rides with one or both feet up like that 80% of the time or more. It’s hilarious.

The other photo is from when the three of us went up and visited with Joe, Alissa, and Barrett. It was Ahna’s first time being able to meet Barrett, and even though Ezra met him a few days prior, it was his first chance to really say hi to his future ski buddy.

Bath Fun

It’s been a while since we took some bathtime photos…so here’s some from Thursday night. He loves being in the water, and goes crazy when he hears the bathtub warming up for his arrival. He also really enjoys getting the water dumped over his head, even though it might surprise him from time to time (see picture below). Also, I included a photo – even though it’s a little blurry – where you can see both of his teeth.

Quick Shot

I took Ezra to a meeting at work this morning – I am on the Apparatus Team, and we are in the process of putting together specifications for three new engines and one new ladder truck. For those unfamiliar with the process….it will take the 8 of us on the team about 12 months to complete the project. It’s a lot of work, and Ezra seems interested in helping…kinda….he certainly voiced his opinion in today’s meeting. Anyhow, one of the guys in the meeting took this picture on his camera phone.

Photo Phun

So I just got home from work and had the opportunity to upload an attempt at something that I have been experimenting with….star trails. This picture was taken last night at 10:30pm at the fire station….it’s amazing how much light is out there, just from the neighborhood and the city. There were absolutely no lights on outside of the station, and the lights in the apparatus bay were on for only 10 seconds, just to give the effect. It was a 20 minute exposure, 18mm, f22, ISO-1000. This is an early attempt at this type of photo, so I expect to be able to do more with this as the summer progresses, especially if we have the opportunity to get out of the city.

PS – the stars are the Orion constellation, oh, and if you click on the picture, it’s a lot better of an image.

Prune Fun

So as Ezra has gotten more and more interactive, there have been some consequences that we have been surprised to find. In the past, Ezra has been a really good and patient eater when chowing on solid foods….but recently, he has started to play with us more, and has been enjoying playing peak-a-boo; which he does by putting his hands on top of his head. Combine the effort to play with the effort to eat – especially the extra sticky food: prunes – and you get a big ol’ mess…and a good ol’ time.

9 Months!

Well, another month has come and gone….this time it was 3/4 of a year gone by (!). Seems as though everyone is over the sicknesses that have inhabited the house for the past few weeks, and all attitudes are on the rebound. Ezra and I went swimming yesterday morning, and then to visit a new member of the extended family at Swedish Hospital…..our great friends Joe and Alissa welcomed a baby boy on Monday night….Barrett was born around 10:30. It was great to see them and to introduce Ezra to a new play buddy….and future teammate of some sport.

The ominous heat that has held the front range hostage for the better part of this week seems as though it is starting to break: today is supposed to be a cool 70, but Saturday could bring us some snow. Keep your fingers crossed that this summer intrusion is only that, and winter will return…..at least some of us actually like this time of year.

All 4 Grandparents Under 1 Roof…Imagine The Possibilities

Ezra’s grandparents (Ahna’s parents) came into town for a long weekend of Ezra fun. They arrived on Thursday night/Friday morning – depending on what clock you looked at – after a long, long day of travel. The normal 2.5 hour drive from home to the airport was turned into a 5+ hour trek due to a snowstorm that wrongfully timed it’s arrival. After a short delay in Minneapolis of about an hour, they had a fairly uneventful trip to Denver. I met them at the airport right as the clock struck the witching hour…though no ghosts appeared.

Friday was a fun day of seeing Ezra for the first time since Christmas for Grandma and Grandpa. We enjoyed a morning at home, a lunch out, and an evening of family-style relaxation. Saturday had little more business-like morning, with a trip to the store for some new PJs for Ezra, but the afternoon kicked off with Ahna and I going out for a short date to the movies – the first one that we have gone to since early last summer (movie review coming soon). The day ended with a wonderful and engaging dinner at our house with my parents. It is always fun to have everyone together, and we really enjoyed each other’s company. Of course, Ezra loved all of the grandparents being around and spent the evening moving back and forth between everyone.

Grandpa and Grandma Bersagel leave to head back to the midwest on Sunday. Our next scheduled time together is a trip sometime this summer….details to be reviled later. Here’s a few pictures from today:

2010 US Olympic Curling Trials

A sort of random act occured today when a friend (Joe) and I went to Broomfield (notice the irony in the name) and watched the 2010 US Olympic Curling Trials. The event also served as the US National Championships. We went for the morning and noon sessions, which were the end of the men’s round robin and the start of the women’s playoff – the finals are over the weekend.

Our obsession with curling began two games ago, and really got kicking during the Turino games in Italy. We heard that this event was coming to town about a year ago, and marked it on the calendar. It was fun to go and watch along with the 100 or so other fans…and to be able to get close and converse with the curlers, as well as to take it as a photography opportunity that doesn’t come around too often.

Anyhow, here are some pictures from today….along with a video if you have no idea what curling is (it’s about 30 seconds long, and I took it today).

The Tooth, The Whole Tooth, And Nothing But The Tooth

Big news! Ezra is in the process of getting his first tooth. After days of being dis-invited into his mouth with our fingers, lots of poop, and a very runny nose (more on that in a minute); Ezra allowed one finger each into his mouth on a very short exploratory mission. The findings by the team were simple: something that feels very unlike a gum, sharper than his tongue, and located on the bottom just to the left of the center. Since nobody to date has seen this mysterious object in person (or been able to photograph it), it is a series of drawn conclusions that have lead us to this point. But I think that we are on solid ground.

The thing is that Ezra has been sick for the better part of two-three weeks. He has had a cough and runny nose that hasn’t gotten worse with time, but they never got any better. Sleep (for all of us) has been up and down….mostly down. So we came to the conclusion that Ezra had fought hard enough without a visit to the doctor’s, so he deserved to see if something medically could be accomplished.

We went to the office this morning and were able to see Dr. Sheehan (his normal Doc). After a pretty good examination, she came to the idea that Ezra has RSV…which is really common in kids his age, and is spreading like wildfire around the metro area. He most likely picked it up in daycare, but if all of the reading material is correct, he is on the downside of the sickness. Due to his good vitals, no fever, and great demeanor; there was no medicine issued, just instructions on what to watch for in case it gets worse before it gets better. His cough seems to be improving today, but the night will bring his biggest test.

Here are a couple of pictures from this evening (with my new camera…..ssshhhh….don’t tell anyone yet, more on that another time)….the one is of him gnawing on a teething biscuit.
