Let’s Crawl!

When I was about to post this video, I got to thinking about something…..on January 16 we posted a video of Ezra starting to perfect the army crawl. That was 11 days ago. Check the new video out:

The Army Crawl

Yea, it seems to be becoming more and more perfected over just the past couple of days. Once again, generally it’s the cat that is inspiring some of the these moves, and just about every time that we set him down to play – and the cat is within sight – he drops and army crawls over to her (ps: I have found them several times locked together via her claws….but just on his clothing. I suppose it’s good that it’s winter and he is wearing long sleeves). We have also started to notice that in conjunction with learning how to use his hands for the army crawl, he is starting to apply the same techniques to attempting to crawl on his knees. I suppose that it won’t be long how.

Six Month, Err, Seven Month Dr Visit

So Ezra finally had his six month well-baby check yesterday. He’s basically 7.5 months for those counting. It was a whole scheduling/vacation thing in December, so it had to get postponed to now.

Everything checked out okay. He is growing well, in good health, and the doctor is please with his development. He is currently dealing with a upper respiratory system problem that is causing a cough, but no fever or any other symptoms. We also had a question about some rash/dry skin looking stuff that has recently developed on his back, and the diagnosis was excema. It seems like Ahna had it when she was a baby, and now Ezra gets to feel the fun. According to the doctor, it tends to flair up more in the cold months due to the dryness, but that it isn’t really much to worry about. We were given the task to make sure that the soaps, detergents, etc that we are using are fragrant-free to rule out any other potential causes.  He hasn’t shown any awareness (pain, discomfort, etc) about the excema thus far, so no big deal.

He did get two shots (HIB and Prevnar) at the visit, and as always did really well with them. Because he was a little tired and hungry, he did cry when he got them (two nurses gave him a shot each, at the same time, to ‘get it over with’), but stopped almost as soon as we picked him up, and stopped altogether when he went back to feeding. So, there was a little “what the heck was that?” cry, but nothing lasting.

Next visit is at the nine month spot. It will mark the first time that we will go two months between visits.

Here are the numbers:

Head: 18″ – 75%

Height: 27.5″ – 75%

Weight: 19 lbs, 4 oz – 65%

7 Months!

Today is Ezra’s 7 month birthday. Holy cow.

Some Video Cheer

Here are a couple short videos of Ezra over the Christmas vacation. There will be another post about the whole ‘crawling’ thing…..

Utterly Ridiculous

So the hotel that we were staying in has a game room. In this game room are things like Pac-Man, car racing games, dancing games, mini-golf, and a cow milking game. Yup, I said it: a cow milking game. You insert a few quarters, and when the utter lights up, you grab it. The more that you correctly grab before the light goes out, the higher your score. It’s one of the funniest, most ridiculous games that I have ever seen. Note: I said ‘seen’ because I have never played it. Ahna can’t make the same claim, as evidenced in the photos below. The sad/funny thing: this isn’t the first time that we have stayed at this hotel. And this isn’t the first time that Ahna has played this game.

Also, here are the pictures of Ezra in the snowsuit (they are all from my camera, so excuse the quality).

6 Months

We celebrated Ezra’s 6-month birthday with a night in Breckenridge…and a bunch of snow (more on that in a different post). Anyhow, it has been quite the ride so far….hard to believe that it has already been half of a year. Among other things, these past two weeks have brought Ezra reaching for people to be picked up, and using his tongue to make a hissing sound (like a ‘th’ noise). He is spending more and more time on his belly (like 20+ minutes at a time) and is really, really close to a good army crawl. As it stands right now, we have a hard time keeping him in one 10×10 area for long. We have a doctor’s appointment next week for shots, and hope to be able to get a weight and height for you all (well, really for us, but your a good excuse). Here’s the progressive picture:

Off The Deep End

It was hot on Tuesday….like record heat. Remember that it snowed last week? Yea, it was 77 degrees yesterday, setting an all-time record. Oh by the way, it is supposed to snow on Thursday again.

Ezra and I celebrated the warm weather by hitting the pool. I know that it’s indoors and the weather has absolutely zero effect on the pool, but it was the only transition that I could think of. Anyhow, we went to the play area at the rec center and spent nearly 30 minutes playing in the ‘deep’ end of the wading pool – it’s 5 feet deep. He swam (and kicked) all around the pool, ‘jumped’ in from the pool edge, and spent some time under the water (totaling about 3 seconds over 3 difference missions under). He almost never gave up the smile as he made lots of friends with other kids.

Here is a picture from this afternoon, just because it seems to have been a while since he was featured…

The End Of The Week, And Some Snow

So week one is completed. Ahna did an amazing job adjusting back to school and the new schedule, and Ezra did equally as well being passed around between several different people.

I have been in class at work (more on that later), so life has been very busy. The daycare that we chose to use doesn’t offer Friday availability….which we knew would be a problem, but we have some ideas on how to handle. Yesterday was the first Friday that we have run into where both Ahna and I were supposed to work; compound that with the fact that I have class pretty much every shift day from 9-4, and it makes for finding other solutions than just me taking the time off. The answer this Friday? My Dad got to watch him….along with a little help from me during lunchtime.

Dad (Saba to Ezra) came over at 730 in the morning to get the repot on how things should go for the day, and to ease into it all before my class at 9. I actually called out sick for the day-side, but the hours that I was in class didn’t count towards those sick hours. It snowed all morning long, with about 3-4 inches accumulating on everything….since it was effectively the first snow of the season (we did get a dusting once or twice), the drivers on the roads acted has if they had never seen it before….actually, I take away the qualifier “since it was the first snow” because the drivers always act as though they have never seen it before. For example, it took Ahna nearly an hour to get to school on a commute that normally takes around 20-25 minutes.

I came home for lunch, well really to take Ezra up to nurse with Ahna (the snow had mostly melted already)…it was nice that my lunch break lasted long enough to accomplish that, but that took the entire break. I literally got back to the classroom with two minutes to spare. On the way back from lunch, Ezra fell asleep in the car and since he didn’t nap well in the morning, I had an idea….I called Dad and asked if he would be willing to meet me in his car and we could transfer Ezra straight into his car for more driving – Ezra surely would have woken up if he was taken inside. Dad agreed, and they ended up driving all over Castle Rock for the next 2 hours. Clearly Ezra napped well in the car.

We took Dad out to dinner to thank him for watching Ezra (no, that isn’t going to happen every time, so anyone that wants to hang out with Ezra for the day…don’t get any ideas), it’s just that we needed some food as well.

Overall, the week went great. There were some hiccups here and there, but nothing that looks like it will be difficult to overcome. Here’s to another week like this one….
